On May 15th, Year 1 embarked on an exciting “Around the World” adventure without ever leaving the Key Stage 1 block. The day began with great excitement as children arrived at school carrying carefully packed suitcases and homemade passports, ready for their international journey. The dining room was transformed into a busy airport, complete with check-in desks, boarding passes, and airport security, before the young travellers boarded their 'flight' for a day of global exploration.
The children visited several countries throughout the day, learning about different cultures through hands-on activities. In China, they created colourful paper lanterns, while in Spain they explored the traditions of a vibrant flower festival. Their journey continued to India, where they enjoyed Bollywood dancing and sampled Indian sweets, before returning home to Kenya for an energetic drumming session and clay pot making activity.
By the end of the day, the exhausted explorers returned home with passports stamped, suitcases full of artwork, and unforgettable memories from their travels. The experience was a wonderful way to deepen the children’s geographical understanding while inspiring curiosity and excitement about the wider world.
