Breaking the Silence: A Landmark International Boy Child Day

May 4, 2026

What a profound success we shared this past Monday, May 4th. International Boy Child Day was far more than a date on the calendar; it was a turning point for our community and a vital step forward for our young men.

While the day focused on our boys, the ripple effect was felt by everyone. By fostering a culture of empathy and understanding, the lessons learned benefited our girls and staff just as much as our male students.

Centered on the theme "Mental Health: Breaking the Silence," we set out to dismantle the outdated "tough it out" stereotype. We worked to replace that old narrative with a new truth: there is profound strength in vulnerability. From Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3, the maturity on display was moving. Our corridors and classrooms were filled with meaningful dialogue as students engaged in:

  • Interactive Lessons: Identifying complex emotions and normalising the reality that "it’s okay not to be okay."
  • Safe Space Circles: Small-group discussions where students felt empowered to share academic, social, and personal pressures without judgment.

A true highlight of the day was the presence of our distinguished guest speakers: Mr. Marfrick Munene (Advocate, Commissioner of Oaths, and Chief Legal Officer at Braeburn Schools Limited) and Mr. Roland Ebole (Lawyer in charge of Research, Consultancies, and Linkages at ABK Advocates). Speaking straight from the heart, they offered our boys more than just advice—they offered a roadmap for healthy manhood. By sharing their own challenges and triumphs, they encouraged the boys to find their voices and speak their truths, no matter how difficult. Their raw honesty served as a powerful bridge, showing our students that "breaking the silence" isn't just a slogan, but a lifelong practice of courage and integrity.

Through these sessions and stories, our students solidified three life-changing realizations:

  1. Opening up is a sign of courage, not weakness.
  2. Mental health is as vital as physical health and academic achievement.
  3. Communication is a tool for resilience that will serve them for a lifetime.

The success of this day didn't end at dismissal. It marks the beginning of our unequivocal commitment to rewriting the script of masculinity. We are determined to smash the myths that "boys don't cry" or that emotional expression is shameful.

We are so proud to see our young men finding their voices and leading with their hearts as well as their minds. Thank you for supporting this vital journey.
